"We loved seeing all the whales! We had a great time wit our family. We would definitely do the tour again. Captain Andrew was great and so was the crew."

How the Dinner Whale Watch Runs
Check in early at Māʻalaea, watch for whales, then dine as the light goes.
Check in 45 minutes early
The trip leaves from Māʻalaea Harbor and the listing asks for check-in 45 minutes before departure. One reviewer found the check-in building hard to spot among the harbor shops, so allow extra time to park and look around.
Board with the whole party
Children 4 and under ride free but must be on the booking. Collapsible wheelchairs may be accommodated if the guest can walk on or be helped aboard.
Whale watch with naturalists
Pacific Whale Foundation's marine naturalists give live commentary while the boat looks for humpbacks. Every vessel keeps 100 yards from the whales, and sightings vary from trip to trip.
Four courses at sunset
A four-course meal is served as the sun drops, with Mai Tais and other drinks included. The trip runs 3 hours and is bookable from 15 November to 15 April.

What You Get on a Whale-Season Dinner Cruise
Which trips include a whale watch, what the meal is, the bar, boarding and the season.
Of the Maui dinner cruises we review, two build whale watching into the trip: Pacific Whale Foundation’s Sunset Dinner Cruise & Whale Watch from Māʻalaea, a whale watch with naturalists and a four-course dinner, and Sea Maui’s Premium Sunset Dinner Cruise from Kāʻanapali Beach, a buffet dinner sail that lists whale watching from 15 December to 15 April. The other dinner cruises are evenings out with a meal, where a humpback may surface in winter but nobody is steering to find one. If whales matter as much as the food, book Pacific Whale Foundation. If you are staying in Kāʻanapali and want a buffet and a bar, Sea Maui is the closer choice.
Which dinner cruises include a whale watch
Pacific Whale Foundation describes this trip as a whale watch with conservation experts and marine naturalists, with dinner served as the sun dips and the whales are spotted. It runs 3 hours, longer than the 2 to 2.5 hours of the other dinner cruises here. It is bookable from 15 November 2026 to 15 April 2027 and costs from $189 per person, with Mai Tais and other drinks included. Our review has more.
Sea Maui lists “Whale Watching (Dec 15th – April 15th)” among the inclusions on its premium dinner cruise. Outside that window the trip still sails, but as a dinner cruise only. The others make no whale-watch claim on the listing: Teralani’s Kāʻanapali Luxury Sunset Dinner Sail talks about ocean and wildlife views, Pride of Maui’s Hawaiian Hula dinner cruise says whale sightings are possible in season, and the Quicksilver and Calypso dinner cruises focus on the meal and the music.

What dinner means on each boat
The word covers three different meals. Pacific Whale Foundation serves a four-course meal; the listing does not publish the menu, so ask about dietary needs when you book. Sea Maui sets out a custom buffet-style menu designed by Chef Jai, and the boat returns to the beach just after sunset. Teralani runs an assisted buffet, and its listing names the dishes: mozzarella caprese skewers, teriyaki meatballs, a Grecian salad, curry-marinated fresh Hawaiian fish, truffle-teriyaki braised short rib or miso tofu on request, Molokaʻi sweet potatoes, wok-fried green beans and a coconut brownie pop. Our Teralani dinner review has the full picture.
The Māʻalaea dinner boats serve at the table. Quicksilver’s Sunset Dinner Cruise brings a Caesar salad, then prime rib, fresh island fish, baby back ribs, barbecue chicken or a vegetarian penne, with chocolate cake and cheesecake. Calypso’s Prime Rib or Fresh Island Fish Dinner Cruise offers a similar choice of mains and asks you to pick one meal per reservation. Pride of Maui says its dinner is freshly prepared with plenty to eat, and takes no menu substitutions.
If you want a lighter evening, appetizer sails such as Teralani’s sunset cocktail sail and the Alihilani serve pupus and an open bar instead of a meal.
Drinks and the bar
Alcohol is included on every dinner cruise in the table, but the bars differ. Teralani’s open bar lists Hawaiian beer, wine, sparkling rosé, Mai Tais, vodka, rum and mixers, with picture ID required for guests 21 and over. Sea Maui pours hand-crafted cocktails and premium beers. Pacific Whale Foundation includes Mai Tais and other drinks. Quicksilver’s Viator listing includes alcoholic drinks, while its GetYourGuide version caps the included drinks at two, so read the terms of the listing you book. Gratuities are extra on all of them.
Boarding, dress and getting there
Kāʻanapali dinner boats load from the sand. The catamaran noses up to the beach, you may wade in water up to your knees, and shoes usually come off before you board. Wear something that can get wet at the hem and leave your good shoes at the hotel. Sea Maui says its dinner cruise does not suit travelers with mobility issues, and Teralani’s dinner sail is not suitable for wheelchair users. Sea Maui validates four hours of parking at the Whalers Village structure.
Māʻalaea boats board from the pier, which is easier for most people, and Calypso’s dinner listing is marked wheelchair accessible. Harbor parking is paid by kiosk or QR code. From Kāʻanapali it is 18.5 miles to Māʻalaea, about 35 minutes without traffic, so allow 30 to 45 minutes or more in the late afternoon on Honoapiʻilani Highway, the only road out of West Maui. Our Māʻalaea guide and Kāʻanapali guide cover each departure.
On the water it cools quickly after sunset. A Pacific Whale Foundation reviewer recommended a small jacket or cover-up, and our what to wear guide covers layers for an evening trip.
When the whale part applies
Whale season runs roughly November to May, peaking from January to March. Pacific Whale Foundation’s dinner whale watch is bookable from 15 November to 15 April, and Sea Maui’s whale-watching window is 15 December to 15 April. Calypso’s prime rib cruise is listed from late October to 31 December and again from 16 April, so it skips the heart of the whale season on its listed dates. Quicksilver’s dinner cruise is bookable to 15 April 2027. Teralani’s dinner sail and Sea Maui’s dinner cruise have no end date, and after the season they are simply sunset dinners. For whale-season trips without a meal, see sunset whale watching.
Couples and special occasions
Teralani presents its dinner sail as a platform for special occasions, with ocean views from every seat. Sea Maui adds live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Pacific Whale Foundation keeps to a select number of guests and adds naturalist commentary, which suits couples who want the whales explained. Quicksilver’s spaced tables give a quieter, restaurant-style meal. "This was a fantastic overall experience. The crew was amazing. The food and drink were very good and the whales did not disappoint. Nice to know that some of the profits from our excursion are contributing to conservation efforts. It's a win win."
"Be ready for a fun time with great crew members and great food. We were exceptionally lucky to see so many whales on our tour. It was hard to sit and eat due to all the excitement!! Make sure to bring a small jacket or coverup as it was chilly by the end of our tour."
"Our only hitch was trying to find where to check in. Directions give an address, but multiple buildings in the complex with the same name made it confusing and hard to find. That said, we made it in time, and the rest of our adventure was outs"
"Everything was perfect. The weather, the service, the food and drinks ks and mostly the whales. Amazing"
"The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The food was very good. We saw a lot of whales. It was a wonderful evening."
"This was absolutely amazing cruise! I would highly recommend this for couples! Everyone on board was fantastic and only enhanced the experience for us!"
"Delightful crew and amazing views. Whales all around us. It was beautiful to watch the whales in the sunset reflection."

Whale Watching Dinner Cruises: Questions
Cost, dress, whales, buffet or plated, dietary needs, children and the season.
On the Maui listings we compare, dinner cruises start from $140 per person on Quicksilver, $150 on Calypso, $168 on Pride of Maui, $169 on Teralani's dinner sail and $180 on Sea Maui's premium dinner cruise. Pacific Whale Foundation's dinner cruise with a full whale watch is from $189. Fares include the meal and drinks; gratuities are extra and Hawaiʻi tax may be shown at checkout. Maui whale watching prices.
None of the dinner listings we compare sets a dress code; Quicksilver and Calypso only ask you to dress for the weather. Plan for the boarding. Kāʻanapali dinner boats load from the sand, so you may wade in knee-deep water and shoes usually come off before boarding. Māʻalaea boats board from the pier. Bring a light layer, because it cools after sunset with the wind on the water, and a reviewer of the Pacific Whale Foundation trip advised a small jacket. What to wear.
In whale season, often, but only two listings we review build whale watching in. Pacific Whale Foundation's dinner cruise is a whale watch with marine naturalists, bookable from 15 November to 15 April. Sea Maui's premium dinner cruise lists whale watching from 15 December to 15 April. The other dinner cruises may pass whales in winter but are not steering to find them, and no trip can promise a sighting. Sunset whale trips.
It depends on the boat. Sea Maui serves a buffet-style menu by Chef Jai, and Teralani runs an assisted buffet with fresh Hawaiian fish, braised short rib or miso tofu. Quicksilver and Calypso serve at the table, with a choice of prime rib, island fish, ribs, chicken or vegetarian pasta. Pacific Whale Foundation serves a four-course meal and does not publish the menu on its listing. The comparison.
Most can if you ask early. Teralani offers miso tofu on request. Quicksilver and Calypso ask for vegetarian, gluten-free and other dietary requests at the time of booking, and both offer a vegetarian penne. Pride of Maui's hula dinner cruise takes no menu substitutions. Sea Maui and Pacific Whale Foundation do not detail dietary options on these listings, so contact the operator after booking with any allergy.
Several welcome families. Pacific Whale Foundation lets children 4 and under ride free, as long as they are on the booking. Quicksilver and Calypso provide no meal for children 3 and under, so share a plate or buy a child ticket with a meal. Sea Maui asks infants to sit on an adult's lap. The open bars are for guests 21 and over with photo ID. Whale watching with kids.
The whale part does not. Pacific Whale Foundation's dinner whale watch is bookable only from 15 November to 15 April, and Sea Maui includes whale watching from 15 December to 15 April. Sea Maui's and Teralani's dinner cruises have no end date on their listings, so they keep sailing as sunset dinners after the season, when they are dinner cruises, not whale watches. Year-round sunset cruises.
For whales, Pacific Whale Foundation's Sunset Dinner Cruise and Whale Watch is the most whale-focused: three hours from Māʻalaea with marine naturalists and a four-course meal, rated 4.7 from 516 reviews. For West Maui guests, Sea Maui's Premium Sunset Dinner Cruise from Kāʻanapali Beach adds a buffet, live music on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a whale-watching window, rated 4.8 from 1,064 reviews. Our ranked picks.
